Recently I had the privilege of representing TREE at the SparkLit awards night in Melbourne, Australia.

On the night, I was interviewed by Michael, the director of SparkLit, to share a little bit about TREE. In the next three posts, I will share an expanded edition of what I shared on the night.

What does TREE Resources hope to achieve?

TREE stands for “Translating REformed Essentials”.

We endeavor to make good theological books available to Japanese readers, both in Japan and overseas.

Our hope is that by translating good books into Japanese, readers will experience the magnificence of the Lord Jesus revealed to us through the whole of Scripture, and not just the New Testament.

We as a team have recently noticed a particular gap in that we want Jesus preached from the Old Testament as well, but there is a lack of understanding of the Old Testament itself and how it all points to Jesus – as he himself taught his disciples on the road to Emmaus. “Show them Jesus” by Klumpenhower is one book we are working on and this was a phrase that came up repeatedly when we were recently discussing what to share here at the Sparklit Awards.

Our desire is that Japanese people will be exposed to and encouraged by sound theology and grow in their love and knowledge of God. Personally, I really want good theology and good theo-logic to become flesh and blood, part of the DNA of Christians in Japan. Every thought, custom and practice of Japanese culture needs to be examined, and either discarded or redeemed through the lens and authority of Scripture.

Lastly, we want to be a platform where young Japanese Christian translators and editors can utilize their gifts and see them come to fruition as published books - distributed and read, becoming a source of encouragement and learning.
