Theology for Children

先週の金曜日に、今年初めてのTREEのミーティングを持ちました。特に、今後の出版計画の打ち合わせをしたのですが、時差の関係もあり、1時間半弱で終了。大急ぎで、いくつものことを決めなければいけませんでした。

しかし、それでも感謝だったのは、話し合いの中で、私たちにとって、大切なコンセプトになるようなキーワードが、出てきたことです。それは「Theology for children」ということばです。

これまで、私たちは良いもの、不可欠なものを日本語で提供することを目指して奉仕してきましたが、その中でもこれから特に力を注いでいきたいことを表すのが、この「Theology for Children」です。これは、『見せよう　イエスさまを』（原題：Show Them Jesus）の翻訳・出版のプロセスを辿る中で、ごく自然と私たちに与えられた神さまからの指針のようなものでした。

「Theology」なんていうと、堅苦しく思えるかもしれませんが、つまりはキリストを土台として、福音中心に考え、生きることを意味しています。子どもたち自身も、子どもたちに関わる大人も、ともに恵みの内に、健全に神学する。そしてキリストへの愛が深まり、キリストのために生きる喜びが湧いてくる——。そのために仕えていくTREEでありたいと、共に確認しました。

ケリー、牧人、のぞみ、のぞむ、萌。私たちはそれぞれ携わっているミニストリーも、置かれている立場も違っています。今いる場所も、オーストラリア、日本、ニュージーランド、北米と、本当にバラバラです。その私たちが、「Theology for Children」というコンセプトを掲げて、一致して、しかもワクワクして、働きを進められることは、とても嬉しいことです。

私たちの思惑通りにはならなくても（これまでもそうでした）、私たちの想像を超えるわざを成してくださる神さまに期待して、共に託された使命を果たしていきたいと思っています。

Last Friday, we had our first TREE meeting of the year. We mainly discussed our upcoming publishing plans, and due to the time difference, the meeting lasted just under an hour and a half. We had to rush and make quick decisions on several matters.

However, I’m particularly thankful because, during the discussion, a key concept emerged that will be important for us moving forward. That concept was the phrase "Theology for Children."

We have always put our focus on providing good and essential resources in Japanese, but this "Theology for Children" is something we want to especially emphasize and pour more effort into in the future. This idea emerged naturally for us as we went through the process of translating and publishing Show Them Jesus. It feels like a guiding direction from God.

The term "theology" may sound a bit heavy, but at its core, it means thinking and living in a Christ-centered way, with a sound understanding of the gospel. It’s about helping both children and adults who work with them engage with theology in a healthy, grace-filled way. As its result, we desire to see them grow in their love for Christ, and experience the joy of living for Him flowing out of their lives! Having this vision in mind, we together prayed that TREE wants to serve with this vision.

Kelly, Makito, Nozomi, Nozomu, and Moe—each of us is involved in different ministries and in different places: Australia, Japan, New Zealand, North America. We are really all over the map. Yet it is truly a blessing that, despite the distance and differences in where we are, we can unite under the concept of "Theology for Children," and move forward with excitement and purpose.

Even though things may not go exactly as we plan (as has often been the case!), we are eager to see the works that God will do, beyond our expectations, and are committed to fulfilling the mission entrusted to us.
